Murray Hill just got more interesting. The French Pantry produces hour-long waiting lines, even in the scorching heat, at its Powers Avenue location. Yes, it's that good. The current Edgewood Bakery in Murray Hill will be transformed into The French Pantry, and
Avondale and
Murray Hill will be home to only the second location for this massively popular lunchtime destination. This is another example of
Murray Hill's vibrant redevelopment effort.
Long lines -- they're worth the wait for lunch at The French Pantry.
The venerable
Edgewood Bakery, a fixture for
Avondale and Murray Hill residents since 1947, was previously owned by the Polletta family. Gary Poletta, the current proprieter, will stay on help manage the new restaurant.
The new owner, John Valentino is a fixture on the Jacksonville restaurant scene. He's the owner of Mellow Mushroom, Uptown Market, Burrito Gallery, and now, The French Pantry. (Valentino purchased the original French Pantry on Powers Avenue in 2015).
Since 1947, The Edgewood Bakery has been a fixture in Murray Hill.
The
Edgewood Bakery started the renovation even before it was purchased by Valentino. Repairs and upgrades included a new roof, new paint inside and out, and new interior fixtures.
Edgewood Bakery remains open through Saturday, March 12. Valentino plans to invest significant capital into the restaurant before re-opening as The French Pantry. Opening date will be announced soon.
